Using the Manage Users tab
Jira administrators can perform certain operations on Entra ID users directly using the “Manage Users” tab of the app’s administrative page.
Even though the primary way of invoking app operations is using the Service API, this tab enables administrators to quickly make Entra ID changes without creating a new automation rule.
Here are the operations you can perform on this page:
Managing an existing Entra ID user
To look up and change an existing Entra ID user, enter part or all of a UPN into the “User Name” field and click the bluer Search button.
Any users found with that search will be listed in the “Select User” drop-down.
After selecting a user from that drop-down, you will see summary information about that user on the right side. Clicking on the arrow next to the “Assigned Groups” label will then show a list of groups that the user is a member of.
Disable / Enable User Account
By clicking the “Disable User Account” button (or “Enable User Account” button, depending on the current state of that user account), you can disable (or enable) the account, which is equivalent to blocking that user's ability to sign into Entra ID.
Reset Password
Clicking the “Reset Password” button will bring up a screen that provides several options to use when the password is reset:
If the checkbox for “Use system generated password” is unchecked, a field allows the specific new password to be set.
This new password is subject to the password complexity requirements defined in your Entra ID directory.
The screen will display the new password after clicking the “Reset Password” button. This will be the only time a newly generated password appears, so it should be copied and securely transmitted to the appropriate party.
If “Force password change” is checked, the user will be prompted for a new password by Entra ID the next time they log in to Entra ID (or any Microsoft 365 app or any other app using Entra ID for Single sign-on).
Add / Remove User from Serviceable Groups
You can add or remove users from Serviceable groups by using the Action buttons next to each serviceable group name.
To add a user to a group, find the group under the “Serviceable Groups” list and click the “Add” button. In the example below, the user can be added to the “Jeff’s Blog” group using the Add button. You use the “Remove” button to remove the user from that serviceable group.
Adding a new Entra ID user
You can add a new user to the Entra ID directory from the “Add User” tab:
Enter field values for the new user. User Principal Name (UPN) and mail fields must follow the correct formats. The UPN will often be the same as the email address. Check with your Entra ID administrator for the proper formats for your organization.
After creating a user with a system-generated password, the new password will be displayed above the Add User tab. Remember to immediately and securely copy, save, and transmit that new password.
Providing a password for the new user
You can also provide a password by toggling the “System Generated Password” switch and entering a new password into the field before clicking the “Create User” button. The password you enter needs to comply with your organization’s Entra ID password complexity rules.
